Boulevard Park playground improvements open house

From Bellingham Parks & Recreation Department

Community members are invited to an open house on Feb. 13 to review and comment on plans for proposed playground improvements at Boulevard Park.

7-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 13
Maritime Heritage Park Pavilion
downtown at 514 West Holly Street in Bellingham

Boulevard Park is situated on Bellingham Bay along South State Street and Bay View Drive in the South Hill Neighborhood. The playground in the park is used by thousands of children and adults every year. It is an important feature of one of the City’s most popular parks, drawing visitors from throughout the City and beyond.

The existing playground equipment, installed in 1994, is aged, weather worn, and has reached the end its service life. Goals for the project include updating equipment to meet current public playground safety standards, staying within the current area to minimize disturbance within the park, and creating fun, interactive play experiences for youngsters of all ages. Proposals to be presented for public review and comment at the Feb. 13 meeting include concepts for replacing the playground equipment, installing a new wheel chair ramp into the playground area and ideas for more seating. Project funding is $90,000 in Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) funds.

For more information about the Feb. 13 open house, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 360-778-7000 or visit www.cob.org/parks .
