Both Cordata & North Forest locations of the Food Co-op provide collection containers to recycle compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs and batteries.
You can bring:
- Dry-cell standard household batteries – D-cell, C-cell, AA, AAA, 9-volt, and button cells.
- Rechargeable battery packs from small electronics – cell phones, cameras, laptops, power tools, etc.
Maintenance Lead Colin Clark packages the collected batteries into prepaid shipping buckets and sends them off. It’s another way we can be good stewards of our environment and support your recycling efforts
The CFL bulbs are recycled with Puget Sound Energy’s bulb drive. You can also discard
CFLs for free at the Whatcom County Disposal of Toxics site at 3505 Airport
Drive, Bellingham. For more on their program, see www.co.whatcom.wa.us/publicworks/solidwaste/construction/
By the way, the Food Co-op has all kinds of classes – open to all.
