A citizen walking through Fairhaven Park reported seeing discolored water in Padden Creek at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. City stormwater and Fire crews responded and spent most of the night attempting to find the source and type of material.
State Department of Ecology staff joined the crews at 1 a.m. The US Coast Guard also responded. The type of material and source remain unknown as of this morning, but are likely related to construction. Crews continue to investigate and are inspecting the 120-year old tunnel. Department of Ecology and state Department of Ecology are on site and taking primary responsibility for managing the situation.
