People throughout Bellingham are invited to participate in an upcoming Open House and online survey. Public participation is critical to shaping the City’s plan to improve bicycling and provide more support for “active,” city-wide modes of transportation. The Open House is scheduled Tuesday, April 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Whatcom Middle School auditorium, 810 Halleck Street.
The Open House will include a presentation at 6:30 p.m. and a set of stations where participants will have the opportunity to:
- Rank goals and objectives
- Review maps showing existing and future bike routes – provide ideas for new facilities
- Identify important destinations for bicyclists
- Learn about bicycle facility types including bike lanes, bike boulevards, shared-use pathways and more
- Submit ideas for what should be included in the plan
- Complete an online survey and enter comments on the Interactive Map to assist with plan development
At the 6:30 p.m. presentation, staff and consultants will provide an overview of the planning process.
Valet bicycle parking will be provided by everybodyBIKE. Look for the everybodyBIKE tent across Halleck Street from the school front entrance.
The Bellingham Bicycle Master Plan will take one year to complete and will identify a detailed strategy toward creating a safe, well-connected network of bicycle facilities and supportive programs to make bicycling a viable transportation choice for all ages and ability levels.
