Lincoln Creek Mobile Home Fire & Fatality

** UPDATE ** The mobile home neighborhood is collecting donations so that the destroyed mobile home can be removed.  (The homeowners are usually responsible -- unfortunately that is not possible in this situation.)  As soon as I find out contact information for donations, I will post it here so that you can help out our neighbors if you are so inclined. -TK

Early Morning Fire in Bellingham Mobile Home Results in Fatality
Posted: April 17, 2013 2:40:08 AM PDT
From the Bellingham Fire Department

Fire crews from Bellingham Fire Department were called to reports of a fire in a mobile home park located at 1200 Lincoln Street at 12:24 this morning (Wednesday April 17).
On arrival fire crews found a double wide modular home with thick black smoke pouring out of all openings. The home was occupied by approximately 60 year old siblings, with the brother found outside of the home with critical burns and the sister reported to be still in the home. Fire crews quickly made access to the home locating a victim and removing her from the structure where EMS crews determined her injuries to be fatal. The brother was treated at the scene by paramedics and then transported to St. Joseph's hospital in critical condition. The patient was subsequently flown to Harborview Hospital in Seattle.

The fire was quickly extinguished with fire damage limited to the back bedroom area of the home and extensive smoke damage throughout the home. Assistant Fire Chief Bill Newbold reported, "while it is unclear at this time if smoke detectors were installed in the home, police and fire units first on scene did not recall hearing any detector alarms." Cause of this very tragic fire is being investigated by Bellingham Police and Fire investigators. No damage estimates are currently available.
