From City of Bellingham - Posted: April 19, 2013 10:18:15 AM PDT
The Public Works Department wishes to inform the public that the following roads will have traffic limitations during the week of April 22-26, 2013, to accommodate construction and repair.
Whatcom County will inspect three city bridges on Tuesday, April 23 starting at 8:00am. At each bridge one lane will be closed and all traffic will be flagged around the work zone. First bridge will be Eldridge Ave. / Squalicum Bridge No. 866-03-S1. The second bridge will be Holly St / Whatcom Creek Bridge No. 866-01-S1 and the third bridge will be Chestnut – Bay/RR Bridge No. 864-03-S2 . For additional information contact Carl Hendricks, Bridge Inspector, Whatcom County Public Works, at 360-815-3815.

Northwest Avenue at McLeod Road
Expect long delays along Northwest Avenue while traffic is reduced to one lane near McLeod Road. Motorists are encouraged to choose an alternate route. Strider Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues construction of the roundabout. Flaggers will direct traffic through the delays and lane closures. For additional information visit the City webpage at http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/mcleod-road-northwest-avenue-phase2-roundabout.aspx or contact Shane Oden, P.E., Project Engineer, at stoden@cob.org or 778-7921.

Alabama Street from Grant to Franklin streets
Alabama Street from Grant to Franklin streets will be reduced to one westbound lane as ICI Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues a project to remove rain and ground water from the sewer system in the Sunnyland neighborhood. Flaggers will direct traffic as needed through detours and closures. For additional information visit the City webpage at http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/central-basin-sewer-eu-0154.aspx or contact Craig Mueller, P.E., Project Engineer, at camueller@cob.org or 778-7922.

Eliza Avenue and Bellis Fair Parkway
Motorists near the south end of Eliza Avenue may experience single lanes and limited access on Eliza Avenue as Faber Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues work on the Eliza Avenue Connector. The southbound lane of Bellis Fair Parkway may be shifted near the construction zone. Flaggers will direct traffic through lane closures. For additional information visit the City webpage athttp://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/eliza-es-441.aspx or contact Shane Oden, P.E., Project Engineer, at stoden@cob.org or 778-7921.

Key and Liberty streets
Ram Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue the 2012 Water Main Replacement project on Key and Liberty streets. There will be no parking on Key Street on selected blocks from Myrtle to Chestnut streets and on Liberty Street from Ellis Street south to the end of the street. Each street will be closed in the area where work is taking place. Expect delays and detours. Flaggers will direct traffic and assist with pedestrian safety as needed. North to Kentucky streets and along the alley between Franklin and Grant streets from Kentucky Street to Alabama streets as ICI Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues a project to remove rain and ground water from the sewer system while replacing sewer mains and laterals. Parts of the alley will be closed. Paving is possible. Flaggers will direct traffic as needed through detours and closures. For additional information visit the City webpage athttp://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/central-basin-sewer-eu-0154.aspx or contact Craig Mueller, P.E., Project Engineer, atcamueller@cob.org or 778-7922.

Harris and McKenzie avenues, 4th and 10th streets

Travelers can expect heavy truck traffic on Harris and McKenzie avenues as well as 4th and 10th streets in Fairhaven up to Interstate 5 as construction concrete work continues associated with the Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements project. For additional information visit the City webpage at http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/wastewater-treatment-improvements.aspx or contact Freeman Anthony, P.E., Project Engineer, at fanthony@cob.org or 778-7924.

The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this information as a public service. It is based on currently available information. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work including resurfacing, sidewalk construction, water and sewer main work, and utility cuts. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
